Arts and Crafts Style in New Homes

2012 MBA Parade of Homes ModelThis is the next entry into a series about our 2012 MBA Parade of Homes model the Roycroft located in Quail Haven Subdivision in Menomonee Falls.

The Roycroft model, inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement that began in the 1890’s was a community of talented artisans known for creating the finest hand crafted goods. We feel that this is also an appropriate description for the skilled tradesmen who build our homes!

Built with details in mind, you will find many handcrafted touches fill this home. You will notice the quality woodwork that is a staple of all Belman Homes. From the mill-made custom cabinets that are carefully hand sanded and stained on-site to the solid maple doors, this home is constructed with a high standard of craftsmanship.

Here are a few things we incorporated into our home that fit the Arts & Crafts Style we are displaying. Keep in mind we are still finishing the home so many of the photos were taken as we build the home and are not the best quality. You will just have to go and see it in person.

Arts and Crafts Door
Arts in Crafts blends wood with glass, and metal for a high quality yet stylish look to the home.

Tapered Posts
One of the most common and well like features of Arts and Crafts or Craftsman style homes is to include the tapered post. Here we display this both inside the home at the basement as well as outside on the front porch.

Box Newel Post
This is a more solid way to accent your staircase and it’s square design blends nicely with the theme of the home.

Square casing with backband
Craftsman of the era preferred using simple designs and lines. They liked building things to the highest quality they could and stayed away from too many angles that they found distracting. This casing is a great example of what you might expect.

Cabinets:
We will save that for another blog but we did utilize simple designs in the home including inverted raised panels, and square molding styles.

3 Panel Doors
These doors are amazing. Solid maple doors in a 3 panel style. They feel very substantial and are very strong. We hand sand and stain all the woodwork in our home on site for impeccable quality.

This is just a small part of what we do when we build our homes. Belman Homes are known for their quality woodwork and it’s our dedication to installing it the old fashioned way that makes a difference. Sure it takes longer, but when you feel how smooth our miter joints are and see all the woodgrains in the home you will know that your home was built the right way.
